Eyes When I went to get my driver's license switched from California to Utah I had to take a little eye test. I have never looked at an eye chart where I could not read all of the letters, but when I looked at this test the entire right side was a hopeless blur. I asked the DMV lady if the right side of the chart was a trick. No, not a trick. She was quite indifferent to my horror. I cannot wink my left eye, so I almost never look through my right eye alone, but I discovered that when my left eye is covered the world is a very blurry place. I made an appointment with an eye doctor and hurried over. Initially I was horrified at the idea of having broken eyes, but I quickly warmed up to the idea when I realized I could finally get a pair of glasses. There are so many adorable glasses to choose from! And what excellent timing! Just when Sarah Palin is making glasses cool again! BYU Football Season has begun! I am so happy about the BYU football team this year! I am feeling extra happy because of the way they punished UCLA this past Saturday. It was an exciting game. I am happy because our tickets this year (they they are in the nosebleeds) are next to Sara and Bryan, Camie and JD, and Bryce's dad and brother. Bryce's dad helped me to learn that knowing the names and talents of the individual players brings your game enjoyment to a whole new level. I like to sit by him because he knows almost all the players and good facts about them. He told Bryce and I that when Dennis Pitta came to BYU he was 5'7' and 180 lb!!! (For anyone who doesn't know, Dennis Pitta is now a massive man-eating giant, ok maybe not quite, but he grew almost a foot!) Pitta is one of my favorites. Tasty There are so many different kinds of food in the world that I have a difficult time making the same thing twice. There are a few things I like to repeat, but I can't do it very often or I will get bored. In my quest to eat as many kinds of food as possible I have started looking up recipes fom other countries. Hence Cornish Finnish Michigan Pasties : (Michigan is basically another country, right?) These are pastry shells filled with roast beef and vegetables. While I was making them I thought, "Hey these pastries look just like Stegosauruses!" So I decided to try adding a head and feet to one of them. You have to poke little holes in the pastry so it won't explode. This proved to be unfortuitous for little Stego-man. :( Originally he was smiley, but 15 minutes in the oven turned his smile into more of an anguished rictus. Draper A couple of weeks ago Bryce's brother Trevor, Kayla and their son Trey came to visit from Hong Kong. The whole family went and stayed in a house in Draper. It was such a beautiful place and it was lots of fun to spend time with everyone and get to know Trey (or T for short.) At first he was not too interested in hanging out with me, but by the time their visit was ending we became friends.

Steff's Baby Shower This weekend we had a baby shower for Steff. I must admit planning and worrying about this party has been weighing on my mind and taking up an undue amount of brainpower. It is nice to have that brain RAM back! Steff said that she had a good time, and that is really all that matters to me, so I consider the event a success. (Even though baby charades was way too easy.) I forgot to take pictures of the decorations, incase you were wondering, they were blue. I made tiny "baby food" for refreshments. These little cupcakes were tasty but pretty labor intensive. If you are feeling super adventurous and want to make your own, Bakerella is the lady with all the answers to your tiny cupcake questions. These were tiny caramel apples (apologies for the blurry photo, remember I was still operating at reduced brain power!) I made them with a melon baller and melted peanut butter chips. German Night! I have just recently read F. Enzio Busche's biography Yearning for the Living God . It was a really excellent book about growing up during the second World War as a German youth. I really like World War II history. I am especially interested in what was going on with normal citizens in Germany. Elder Busche's book really made me understand the way Hitler betrayed his countrymen. I love to hear Bryce's mission stories about Austria and Germany, hopefully I can go see it someday. Reading the biography made me think about a lot of things and of course put me in the mood for some German food; so that is what I made this Friday. We had schnitzel , spaetzle , and german potato salad . Chris came over for dinner and then beat us at Bocce ball. It was a good beginning to a good weekend.
