On November 29, 1839 Joseph Smith went to the White House to meet with President Martin Van Buren. It had been a terrible stretch of years for the members of the new church in Missouri. They had been denied the right to vote, beaten in the streets, dragged out of their homes and killed despite surrendering. Certainly mobs were a problem, but even more egregious were abuses from the state militia, and from the police, because those were the people who should have protected the saints. Joseph Smith and several other church leaders had been wrongfully imprisoned for months on end. He met with the president with hope for relief but was sent home empty-handed. The saints tried to get justice through the court system and were denied. Joseph appealed to Van Buren a second time who rebuffed him with the words, "Your cause is just, but I cannot help you." Are Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Christian? My friend Jessi's son was recently rejected from a Christian private school because their family are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Their story has been covered in this article: LR Christian Academy Rejects Mormon as Pupil. Little Rock Christian Academy is a private school, so they are entitled to accept or reject whomever they choose, and do whatever they want. As a member of the church that brought you Brigham Young University , and the famous Honor Code , I can certainly appreciate that. I am saddened by the culture of fear that LRCA seems to be promulgating against members of our church. I especially was disturbed when one administrator quoted in the article saying, "It’s very, very sneaky when people come in, especially in elementary and junior high grades where the kids are very influenced." Projects and Stuff Many exciting things are going on right now. Handsome Bryce defended his thesis and graduated. Before he did that he had to finish his thesis. We did an all-nighter to help get that done in time. Bryce said a white-board would help him organize his thoughts so I got this one for $6 at the thrift store. It has a little chalkboard on the other side. I thought maybe McBaby would like to play with it one day. It was in good working order except for some scribbling which made it look pretty ghetto.   I'm a fan of spray paint. Once the thesis was done I taped paper over the chalkboard and whiteboard surfaces. A couple of coats of spray paint and it is totally un-ghettoized!  It was also Handsome Bryce's birthday recently. He requested red velvet cake with cream cheese icing. I really liked this recipe, but I never bothered to take a picture of the inside of the cake! It was red ok? Hey We Had a Baby! We are so happy to have this most perfect baby! I'll be taking a little more time away from the blug, to spend time with Handsome Bryce and Handsome McBaby, because they are what matter most . I'll resume posting in a week or two. Have a fabulous day friends!

History Lesson You can tell I was pretty peeved because I didn't even say the whole word "Whatever" and I am not one to go shortening words willy nilly. That is how my former blog url came into being. It was a fine url, but it seemed kind of random and disconnected with the rest of my blog, since I rarely actually curse or blast anything.
