Vacation Bryce finished with his internship and we are now on a trip in Southern Germany. It is beautiful here! We went to the temple in Frankfurt and it was excellent. The spire was too tall to fit in the picture so we took a picture of it alone. Right now we are in Stuttgart staying with a wonderful family that Bryce knows from his mission here. Today we went to the Mercedes museum and saw 9 floors worth of cars cars cars. It was excellent and very interesting. Here is Handsome Bryce next to a giant 1500 horsepower engine. It was designed for racing semi trucks. Stuttgart is amazing. The city is very hilly, similar to Eastern Salt Lake, but much older. Bryce and I have been exploring the places he saw on his mission. Here is a normal neighborhood near where he lived as a missionary. This is the city center area with a winged lady on a tall column. Perhaps she is friends with Moroni from the first picture in this post? Before we left Thiede we had an adventure in the woods. Here is a ...

Critters in Germany In Germany there are some little creatures that cannot be found in America, or at least that I cannot find in America. Our friend Chris has been extolling the excellent characteristics of Hedgehogs for a long time, so we decided to go out and find one. Alas, our first and second excusions did not reveal any hedgies. As we were walking along we saw some little green LEDs glowing in the grass. Upon closer inspection they turned out to be Glow Worms! Look how brightly they glow! We also found a Mr.Toad. He was cranky, and for those of you who don't know, cranky toads like to pee on people. I am holding him that way to foil any urine-related plans he might have had. Our hedgie hunts were unsuccessful, even though we looked for a very long time. It turns out laziness is the best policy when looking for hedgehogs. We were sitting visiting with the Heller family when I heard a rustling in the corner. I went to inspect and found a pokey little bum protruding from a spri...

German words for English Eyes We see a lot of funny things around town. Some of them are odd English words and some are not odd German words, but they sound funny when you pretend that they are. For example, this cereal has an English name, but I am not sure what they were going for. Is this cereal really free to eat? Can I just eat a few handfuls there in the store, or do I have to eat the whole box? Actually, does "Free to Eat" refer to the cereal or is it just the box I am allowed to eat without paying? So many questions. Then there are signs that seem hostile. I don't know who the Schmuck(ecke) is, but it seems sad someone wants him to die. At least here they are not specifically targetting anyone. They are dealing out equal opportunity death threats. But, enough death. Why not enjoy a "BumBum" ice cream instead? (P.s. Oddly enough the Bum Bum flavor was not delicious.) If you don't fancy an ice cream there is always the mixture of bum flavors to be foun...

Heilige Pug Hello everyone! This week I slow cooked a chicken for a few hours. When it was done I rinsed out the pan and was shocked by what I saw. There, emblazoned on the bottom of my pan was the image of a pug-face! I think this must be a sign from the great pug in the sky. Hoorah!

Shopping in Germany Things are still going well here in Germany. (Aside to Camie: Bryce got an internship with a steel manufacturing company here in Germany, we found out about it the day after you left!) Right now he is working on optimizing a machine called the Fett-schmierungsomething-or-other which translates directly to "Fat-Smearer" I know you are not supposed to translate things directly but it is just so much fun! It is a lubrication system for the cold rolling machines. He has also been asked to design a spline for another machine. The weather has been a bit rainy, but it is really lovely here. I usually work, clean and go to the grocery store during the day. If you are ever planning on grocery shopping in germany there are a few things that you should know: #1. Not all containers, depicting happy people cuddling clean towels, are full of actual laundry soap. If you are not careful you might find yourself doing loads of laundry with nothing but fabric softener. Con: ...

Germ any Up date Hello from Germany! Hee hee that title looks like it says "Germ any up date" but it is supposed to look like the colors of the german flag ok? Things have been pretty crazy getting settled in Germany, but it has been really fun. Luckily we are living in an arpartment owned by two very kind and helpful people! This weekend we went to Braunschweig, wich is a large city a couple of minutes away from the little village we live in. Braunschweig, (Brunswick on an English map) is pretty and big, with lots of castle-like buildings and cathedrals. Here is handsome Bryce sitting infront of a schloss that was rebuilt two years ago. The original was destroyed by bombing in WWI. There was a Middleages fest going on in the city this weekend it was a lot of fun to see, especially surrounded by so many middle ages buildings. This is my Pen-pal Heike and her son. We have been writing to eachother for a little over a year and it was really exciting to get to meet her! It is pr...
